MP Mary Robinson praises the great work of Pupil Parliament on a visit to launch new play equipment at Cheadle Hulme Primary School

On Friday 19th May 2023, MP Mary Robinson visited Cheadle Hulme Primary School to officially open the new playground markings and innovative technology, funded by the PTA.

On arrival, Mary spent some time speaking with a group of the Year 4 pupils who were keen to share their excitement about the new playground setup and the games they play. Sport and exercise are a fantastic way to engage young people in learning and Mary was given a chance to test her skills against a group of pupils on the ISportWall, which was generously funded by the school community through the PTA to give pupils across the school opportunities to enhance their academic and enrichment curriculum through the power of exercise, collaboration and technology.

During her visit a group of pupils had the chance to speak to Mary about their roles in the Pupil Parliament and how they came up with the idea to raise funds, through a walkathon for local charity, Together Trust.

Mary commended the pupils and said:

“It is great to have such a fantastic school at the heart of our community. Children at Cheadle Hulme Primary School are provided with an ambitious and inspiring curriculum that encourages them to have high aspirations academically, and through a range of enrichment programmes that the school offers.

“The playground equipment and markings has made a positive impact to the way children collaborate and play with each other during play and lunch times, as well as in the school’s wraparound care. I thoroughly enjoyed being taken around the school and shown the new playground setup by the pupils.”

Head of School, Mr Thompson, said:

“We are delighted to be able to provide our children with fantastic facilities across our school site that enhance both the academic and enrichment curriculum at Cheadle Hulme Primary School. Much of this could not have been achieved without the hard work and dedication of our whole school community who have been fundraising with our PTA over recent years. The children have really enjoyed using the equipment and loved having the opportunity to share this with our MP, Mary Robinson. We know these additions will provide current and future pupils with memorable experiences and contribute to their love of learning that inspires them to work hard and achieve success at primary school and in their futures.”

Walking in their Shoes: Pupils go the extra mile with fundraising efforts

Pupils from Cheadle Hulme Primary School laced up their trainers and took to the playground in our latest fundraising event: ‘Walking in their Shoes’.

This event was in support of The Together Trust, our chosen charity for 2022-23.The Together Trust help people with disabilities, autism and complex health needs. They also provide life-changing support for looked-after and care-experienced people.

Pupils in every year group got involved by walking, running, and hopping their way through as many miles as they could!

This was a great chance to try out our newly enhanced playground and support The Together Trust at the same time!

Thanks to our PTA‘s fundraising efforts, the playground has been upgraded with new markings which will enrich children’s playtime and sports lessons.

We had lots of fun using the new markings to track how many miles had been completed!

As a school, we managed to walk 376 miles and raise £161!

We’re extremely proud of this achievement and hope that the children are too. In addition to raising money, our pupils raised awareness for The Together Trust.

The children also learned about the importance of celebrating and embracing differences by ‘walking in their shoes’. This was our first planned event since partnering with The Together Trust earlier this year. During the Spring Term, we donated lots of pre-loved clothing as part of their Declutter and Donate.

We look forward to supporting the charity with more fundraising events later in the year. Finally, we’d like to say a huge thank you to our PTA for the new playground and to all the children for their efforts.
