Summer Term in Year 2

The inspirational texts on our bookshelf will inspire our learning across the curriculum.

Summer Bookshelf

We are looking forward to exploring our Spring Bookshelf and learning how the characters in the stories inspire bravery, cultivate curiosity, and celebrate the virtues that shape a better world.

We will develop our understanding of our character traits through our new bookshelf texts. During our English lessons, we will continue to develop our story writing skills and consider the narrative the stories follow. We will also write a detailed recount of our school trip to Chester Zoo using descriptive language and historical accuracy. 

Our Science will focus on ‘Growing’ where we will be exploring what animals go through when they grow. We will have our very own Butterfly Kingdom where the children will watch the caterpillars grow and change into butterflies throughout the term. 

Our Maths learning this term will focus on developing our understanding of fractions, measurement and time. We will also continue to revisit strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and practise these through arithmetic and problem-solving questions. 

Year 2 Summer Term Highlights

  • We look forward to enhancing our learning in history with an educational visit to Chester Zoo.  
  • Children will have the opportunity to compete in different sporting events and we look forward to more outdoor learning as the days get warmer.

Important Information

  • Please make sure your child’s book bag containing their reading books, reading record is brought into school every day.    
  • Reading books will be changed weekly. 
  • Please continue to sign your child’s reading record book daily   
  • Home Learning will include daily reading, weekly spellings, and a maths or SPAG task each week.   
  • Your Child’s class teacher will be available every day before and after school to receive messages, celebrate successes and answer any questions. 

As always, there will be lots of learning and exciting activities going on in Year 2 this term!
